The first friendly fixture of the season saw an U11-U13 side take on Newdigate CC at Parsons Mead. At the start the girls were all nervous as the opposition had beat us convincingly at the end of last season so we hoped we would fare better this time. We needn't have worried as the girls played superbly.
Newdigate went in to bat first and for this pairs game, every girl got to bowl 2 overs. Our bowling was spot on and kept their run rate down. Wickets were taken by Sophie Youngman, Kaitlyn Sheffield, Megan McLoughlin, Anna Stansfield, Jessica Laguarda, and Isabel Makroum. The best figures were Laura Dolan who bowled 2 overs and only gave away 2 runs (no wides). At the end of Newdigate's innings they had reached 290 (starting at 200).
Ashtead then went into bat and and from the outset it looked like we were on winning form. Newdigate were giving away a number of extras but we were keeping the runs ticking over as well. In particular the pair of Laura Dolan and Olivia Gamber put 29 runs on the board. At the end we comfortably reached 325 to win the match by 35 runs.
Well done girls as our performance looks like we have come on leaps and bounds since last seasos and looks promising for the matches to come.
