Girls Team take part in first tournament of the season.

Ashtead Cricket Club took part in the Girl’s Festival at Banstead on Sunday 14th April. The first tournament of the season brought a lovely sunny, yet very windy spring day!

The first match was against Reigate. There was some good fielding by Jessica Laguarda and Sophie Youngman took a wicket. Isabel Makroum hit two sixes which helped towards Ashtead winning the match.

The second match was against a team of very tall girls from Sutton Cricket Club. Tasmin Williams did some great batting as did Katie Palmer, who is new to the game this year. Also there was some good fielding by Laura Dolan and Liberty Campbell but after a hard fought game Ashtead lost by five runs.

Match three against Banstead saw some excellent batting by Tasmin and Olivia Gamber. Caitlin Keenan was very on the ball as wicket keeper. Sophie made a great catch and Laura ran a player out. In the last over the opposition needed one run, it was a nail biting finish and Ashtead was robbed of the win!

The final match was against Epsom and Ashtead batted first. Sophie and Liberty took some risks but did some great running and Amy Tubb made some good hits. There was some energetic fielding by Isabel and Tasmin and Liberty made a great run out, but sadly Ashtead just lost out again.

It was a really enjoyable day overall. Well done to all the girls, there was some great teamwork seen which is encouraging for the season ahead.

Olivia Gamber (Joint Captain)
