Ashtead Girls Represent Mole Valley in Surrey Youth Games

Nine girls from Ashtead CC represented the Mole Valley team in the girls U11 cricket tournament at Surrey Youth Games on Sunday 17th June. Despite being a young side with 5 of the girls U9, there was much enthusiasm and determination to each game of cricket that was played.

The first game was difficult and as we were still finding our feet, we lost by 50 runs. In our second game our cricket skills were starting to develop further and despite losing again, the match was closer.

The third and final match of our 'round robin' games was one we had to win to progress to the finals stage. All girls by now had developed accurate bowling so we were able to contain the number of runs that the opposition made. As we went into bat we knew we had it in us to win and so every girl took every run they could to ensure we came out victorious. It was a narrow victory but the smiles on all the girls faces said it all.

Our final match was against Epsom and Ewell, who we had lost to earlier on in the day, so it was going to be difficult. Despite a valiant effort, unfortunately the girls lost and came out as 6th out of 7 teams on the day.

All the girls really enjoyed themselves and hopefully have developed a keen interest in cricket for the future.
