6 run victory over Leatherhead

The U15s progressed to round 4 of the ECB cup with a 6 run victory over local rivals Leatherhead. Leatherhead won the toss and inserted the Ashtead boys on a chilly morning at Woodfield Lane. The innings started steadily and after Sam Hunt [16] fell the half way was reached with the score on only 43. When Marcus Caprano-Wint [25] was unfortunately run out at the non-strickers end, Blake FIldes joined Ben Geddes at the crease in what proved to be the turning point. Blake Fildes hit a rapid 41 of only 20 deliveries in a partnership of 58 to put momentum into the innings and with 20 runs coming off the last over, which saw Ben Geddes [41] caught of the last ball, the innings closed at 140 for 4 off 20 overs.
In response, Sam Hunt struck in the first over removing Dan Meyer, but this brought Aidan Hayes to the crease to play the anchor role. Blake Fildes took a sharp return catch to remover Matt Evans [10] and with the score on 58 for 3 the game was in the balance at half way. Matt Scott joined Hayes at the wicket and attacked the bowling from the start and added 70 before retiring for a fine struck 51. With 19 required off the last two overs it was game on, but Blake Fildes over only gave away 6 leaving 13 off the last over. Despite the first ball finding the boundary, Peter Wing held his nerve to take two wickets and it proved just to far for Aidan Hayes, who finished 43 Not Out. A great game played in super spirit going to Ashtead by 6 runs. Esher await in the next round.
