On another cool, breezy and dam Sunday morning (don't you just love playing cricket in Autumn!) the U15s travelled to Raynes Park Sports Ground (past the Krispee Kreme drive through) to play Wimbledon.
Having won the toss, and putting Wimbledon in Ashtead soon had them 21-2 in 7 overs with some tidy bowling on a wet and very green wicket. But then Hawkins-Hooker cut lose and retired on a very well struck 60 which left a lot for the other batters to do as Wimbledon limped along then to 123 all out in their last over, surely a winnable score.
But no batter got themselves truly set and kept chipping the ball in the air or giving their wicket away going for an unnecessary big shot - Sam Bedell did hit some lusty blows for his 22. In the 17th over of 24 Ashtead found themselves 79-8 and the coach was already going through the post match discussion in his head.
But commeth the hour the cavalry arrived, and a great 46 run partnership by Ed England (27*) and Josh Gamber (23*) who paced the chase incredibly well to hit the winning boundary with 2 balls left.
A good win with some solid performances across the group.
