Ashtead Cricket U13s off to a winning start beating Epsom in a County Cup Match

The U13’s made a great start to the season with a comfortable win over Epsom in a Surrey County Cup match at Woodfield Lane. We batted first and made 132 for 5 off 20 overs and we bowled out Epsom for 80 runs off 18 overs. Sam made a great debut opening the batting, scoring 7 and later bowling the only maiden over of the match. Daniel F retired on 30 and Josh made 28, both batsmen hitting 5 fours each – well done. Charlie and Parth finished our innings with 18 and 10 not out respectively, playing some nice shots.

Our bowling was very strong with everyone getting the opportunity to bowl. Ned was red hot, quick and unplayable at times and would probably have got Alistair Cook out, finishing on 4-3-2 (runs-wickets-overs). Jake was excellent, picking up 2 wickets (5-2-2) and Aidan, Ishan, Josh and Kish grabbed a wicket each. It was very impressive that 8 of Epsom’s batmen were clean bowled. Ambar had a fantastic direct hit run out and our fielding was very good, a great example was Charlie making a diving stop on the boundary to save 4 and flicking the ball to Ish.

A great team effort, with the boys giving each other positive encouragement throughout the match. Well done boys – a great start to the season.
