Ashtead U12s 95-7 beat Long Ditton U12s 92-4 (20 over match)
Sunday saw the beginning of the new season on a wind swept Tiffinians Sports Ground. Having lost the toss, Ashtead were asked to bat first and the early signs were not good with wickets falling quickly at the start. However, the middle order were able to stabilise the innings and start building a competitive total, with 70 runs added for the last 2 wickets, marked by some dogged batting by Taiga and Andrew and a productive cameo from Louis in the final overs.
With a defendable total, the pressure was on the bowlers who delivered a controlled performance, led by some accurate bowling from Ollie and Marco, giving the batsmen no free runs and always asking questions. The bowlers were backed up with some excellent fielding and a well positioned field. The lack of extras given away by the team was remarkable and bodes well for the rest of the season.
All members of the team contributed, including the new members of the squad who all bowled well under pressure - well done Abu, Dylan and Max, with Abu and Dylan picking up 2 wickets each on their debut, the latter accounting for the opposition's most dangerous batsman.
High standards have been set but the future looks bright for the season ahead - well done all.
