On a warm evening at Parsons Mead Ashtead lost the toss and Captain Perkins was asked to bowl.

Bowling

The opening combination of Perkins and Pittman bowled well at the Esher opening batsmen and it was clear early on that the Esher boys could bat so a wicket a piece in the 3rd and 4th Overs was really pleasing. Perkins bowled their Opener and Gwyther (WK for the evening) taking a catch from the No. 3 batsman off the bowling of Pittman. Enter Rackett in the 7th Over and a stunning fine leg boundary catch by Gillespie saw off the other Esher Opener....who has previously been spotted playing for Central District. Some fine batting from another Esher batsman at no. 4 saw him retire on 30 before some superb slow left arm stuff from Wentworth brought him a wicket maiden and pick of the figures of 1 for 6 off 3 Overs and really slowed the Esher innings as they looked to accelerate...fine Captaining to throw him the ball and give him 3 Overs. A run out by Gwyther and some good supporting middle over bowling by Fraser-Ker, Thorogood and McArthur and Esher reached 111 for 5 after their 20 Overs. Generally a fine fielding performance and very good encouragement all round.

Batting

Martin and Goodin formed the opening partnership and kept a good eye on the rate required. Martin put on19 to his clear delight before being bowled. Goodin played a superb measured innings retiring not out on 32. Throughout the innings the run rate required hovered between 5 and 6. Gillespie was unfortunately bowled trying to accelerate the rate before Perkins (16 Not Out) and Fraser-Ker (21) put on a fine partnership with some superb singles running and almost saw the team home before Fraser-Ker was caught. With 6 required off the last Over, 5 off 5, 4 off 4 etc and the scores tied with a ball to go and the field right up a charge from Perkins and Gwyther to secure the byes needed to win the match with 113 for 3 Wickets off exactly 20 Overs!!
Ashtead U12A won by 7 Wickets but that really doesn't tell the story...the Esher side was stronger than some of the sides the A team have played this season so very well done boys.
