LEAGUE MATCH 7TH JUNE 2015

On a lovely Sunny morning, the complete opposite of last week Ashtead hosted Long Ditton at Headley CC. Ashtead lost the toss and were put into bat on a notoriously slow wicket.

Batting

Graham and Goodin once again formed the opening partnership. Graham reached 17 before being bowled and Goodin (7) fell without another run being added. Hutter batting at 3 put on 7 before being caught and bowled, a fine catch indeed. Unfortunately Arnett was then caught and having gone from 28-0 in 4 Overs to 43 for 4 after 10 overs the score was looking well short of par. Gwyther however steadied the innings superbly putting on 25 before an unfortunate run out. Crossan (6), Fraser Ker (3) and Brockes (1) saw Ashtead to 93 for 7 after 20 Overs.
One lesson of today is looking for the first run by teh non striker backing up and running the first run hard. Had this been a bit better the total would have been closer to 110.

Bowling

It was made clear to the boys that 93 runs was below par but on a pitch that is hard to bat on because the ball usually stays so low if they bowled consistently at the stumps they would take wickets.
The boys bowled to this plan very well indeed and wickets fell at regular intervals. 2 Wickets for Brockes and 1 for Graham. Some good bowling also from Mir and Mason. The stand out bowling was that of Perkins with 4 Wickets for 3 runs in 4 overs, superb line and length bowling. A couple of good run outs by Fraser Ker and Arnett and Long Ditton had only reached 56 for 9 after their 20 Overs.

Ashtead U12A won by 37 Runs.

Ashtead were represented by Arnett, Brockes, Crossan, Frser-Ker, Goodin, Graham, Gwyther, Hutter, Mason, Mir, Perkins.
