This week saw a trip to Worcester Park to see if we could keep our unbeaten league season on track. Ashtead won the toss on a cloudy morning and chose to have a bat first.
Batting
Graham and Goodin once again formed the opening partnership. Graham fired a quick 21 before being caught at mid on, Gooding unfortunately being trapped LBW early on. Arnett and Bates were both bowled by good deliveries leaving us at 31 for 4 going into the 6th Over. Fraser Ker with 15 and Crossan managed to rebuild the innings with a partnership of 49 in a 10 Over spell with Crossan top scoring with 33 before being bowled just before retirement kicked in. Brockes unfortunately clipped one to point, Jenkins was bowled but a useful 10 runs not out from Perkins and a run for a delighted Bunyard saw Ashtead to 108 for 8 after 20 Overs.
Bowling
We new 108 was a reasonable total but far from a certain winning score. The boys set an aggressive field early and executed their fielding very well saving many singles in the early overs and restricting the opposition to only 7 boundaries. 6 Bowlers were used and wickets were shared amongst all of them with 2 for Perkins and Crossan, 1 for each of Brockes, Jenkins, Mason and Bunyard supported by a couple of stumpings and a good catch by Bates. Top economy figures to Brockes with 1.5, 4 Overs, 2 maidens and 1 wicket for 6 runs, some very good bowling.
Worcester Park reached 66 for 8 after their 20 Overs.
Ashtead U12A won by 42 Runs.
Ashtead were represented by Arnett, Bates, Brockes, Bunyard, Crossan, Fraser-Ker, Goodin, Graham, Jenkins, Mason, Perkins.
Many thanks to Crossan (Brendan) for scoring once again and Graham (Peter) for umpiring in conditions which turned worse as the match progress.
Ashtead U12 A’s currently top their league by 2 points (4 for a win), having played one game less than the second placed team. Whilst there are only 2 league games left they are against the second and fourth placed teams, with the latter yet to be beaten this season.
