On the face of it the result of 301 to Sunbury v 255 for Ashtead seems like an easy win for the home side. However, when you take away all the extras our bowlers gave away, there was just 7 runs in it.
I'm really proud of the boys who batted particularly well and were running extremely well. Their fielding was also top notch. The only problem was a very high number of wides and no balls bowled - and this is clearly an aspect we need to continue to work on. The boys need to focus on getting consistency of accuracy of both line and pitch before they try to put pace into their bowling.
So a defeat ... yes. But there is much to be very proud of and a clear lesson to work on. And most importantly, I think the team enjoyed the experience on a beautiful ground.
Congratulations to Jack Goodman on captaining his side very proactively. I hope the other boys noticed how he went about this. Congrats also to our top scorers: Jack Goodman, Joel Harris, Luke Horner-Long and Alex Gillespie. Congrats also to Paddy Tenent for bowling a maiden over.
Thanks to Colin Goodman for scoring and Mick Harris for organising the batsmen.
