Ashtead U9s close out a tight match against Kempton to win their first WSY League match

Ashtead U9s put behind them the disappointment of their recent cup exit with a close but controlled win at Kempton.

After winning the toss, skipper Josh Lyon put Kempton in to bat. Ashtead looked sharp in the field, and were unlucky on a couple of occassions to get the decision on close run-out chance. However the boys kept plugging awA, and it was great to hear some great banter on the field as the playes sought to encourage each other. The bowlingwas generally tight on a very green track. Wickets from Parth Gupta (1 for 8), Ben Lowery (1 for 12) and Josh Lyon (1 for 2) kept the breaks on the score. Ambar Vishnoi, coming in to bowl for the crucial final overs, was in fine form producing some great swing. Ambar finished with excellent figures of 3 wickets for 3 runs, including a superb diving catch on the follow through off his own bowling.

Chasing a target of 262, Ashtead's batsmen started well with Kishan Patel and Parth Gutpa putting on 25 for the first pair partnership. Curtis Starr and Ben Lowery continued to score well, Ben ending with 25 runs off 19 balls. Tight bowling from Kempton the slowed up Ashtead's runs but by then the game was well in Ashtead's control. Mikey Pinnock and Josh Lyon saw off some excellent bowling to maintain forward movement in the score, allowing Ambar Vishnoi and Daniel Fisher to see Ashtead safely to victory.
