Ashtead finally won a toss and decided to put Weybridge in to bat on a soft wicket following overnight rain. James Graham (3-18) picked up a wicket in the first over with a lifted ball finding the edge guided to gully. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals, with Patrick Murray (2-27), Sam Hunt (2-22) and Will Culhane (3-14) all chipping in with wickets. Our catching was good, with 7 wickets being caught and a one handed left hand catch by Oli Hunt at short extra cover being the pick of them.
Tea wasn't ready so we turned straight round but the Ashtead reply did not get off to a good start with Sam Gale adjudged LBW on the very first ball of the innings, Shaun Wallace (4) followed soon afterwards with an unplayable lifting ball gloving to the keeper. Tom Culhane (31) and Rob Wint (54*) started to rebuild but the skipper fell with the score on 53-3 playing on to his stumps.
Patrick Murray (23*) joined Wint and the score reached 67-3 when tea was taken at 3.15pm in only 12 overs. After tea Ashtead continued to be positive and the scores were tied before Wint swept for a 4 having just reached his 50 and Ashtead secured their 10th win of the season in just 22 overs.
A challenging wicket to play on but Ashtead triumphed and play already relegated Old Whit's in the final game of the season at Box Hill next Saturday and hope to secure 3rd spot at minimum.
