On a stunning and scorching day at Box Hill, Ashtead lost to previously bottom of the table Normandy. With an amazing stand of 128 for the first wicket between Nick Gavin-Brown and Michael Renauf, Ashtead slumped to 181 all out as each new batsman bar Gareth Amer and Ellis Jarrold couldn't put any scores together. Gareth scored well for his 25 and Ellis in his first senior game scored a patient and attractive 14. But no one else really troubled the scorers after the final wicket fell in the 55th over.
In reply, Ashtead started well with some smart catching from Josh Gamber and good swing bowling from Dom Lloyd and had Normandy on 48-3. But a few stubborn partnerships kept chipping into the below par score and Normandy edged closer, a few more wickets fell, the last with just 4 runs needed, but Normandy ran out winners.
Ashtead just didn't score enough runs to be truly competitive on a good, but slow wicket.
