The 3s hosted high flying Wimbledon in the first timed game of the season and after batting first were skittled for 111 on a slow pitch, no one really dominating the bowling. It was the 42nd over when the final wicket fell.
In reply Wimbledon were confident but found runs hard to come by, the first wicket fell to Henry Elburn at 29-1. Then one became two as Henry clean bowled the Wimbledon captain, 33-2. But it was the introduction of spin which turned out pivotal as Connor Caprano-Wint made things really uncomfortable for Wimbledon as he picked up the next 6 wickets to leave Wimbledon staring down the barrel at 57-8.
But as the Stags pressed hard with loads of bowling changes the next two wickets just couldn't be taken, and with just 3 runs needed for victory the set batter was caught on the boundary as Harry Williams picked up the 9th wicket. With the bal turning and variable bounce the final runs took a while but Wimbledon secured the win with plenty of overs left, but they breathed a massivesigh of relief as they we had them severely rattled.
A great game in the end.
