Ashtead lost the toss at an overcast Weybridge and were asked to bat in the first of the longer format matches of the 2016 season.
Gary Martin and Kamran Mirza got the innings off to a solid start putting on 81 for the first wicket, scoring at a good pace before Mirza lost his leg stump one run short of fifty. Martin was joined by Laudy, who also scored freely to take the score to 149 before losing Martin shortly after reaching his fifty. All of the batsmen to follow came in and scored at a good clip to eventually finish on 252-6 declared after 50.5 overs, leaving WCC 50 overs to bat. Useful contributions were made by Laudy 49, Pickering 34* and Storey 28.
The WCC reply got off to a disastrous start at the hands of the ACC babyfaced assasins. Aaron Rose and Jake Martin reduced WCC to 24-4 leaving their chase in tatters. Some late-middle order resistance from Day (52) and Methley (58) gave WCC a sniff with only 90 or so runs required and 4 wickets in the hut, but the ACC spinners (Cohen and Culhane) bowled well in tandem picking up 2 apiece and eventually bowling WCC out for 216 with just over 4 overs remaining. Wickets were shared; Rose ending with 3 and Vasantham also bowling well to pick up 2.
ACC sit second in the league having 4 out of 5 and travel to Epsom on the 11th.
