Trinity Mid Whits won the toss and chose to bat. Tom Culhane took two early wickets before batsmen Bond and James settled into their stride and put on a 50 run partnership for the 3rd wicket. Bond and Warne put together a further 49 runs before Bond was finally bowled by Sam Homes for 60. Sam Homes took 5 wickets for 56 off a mammoth 22 overs while Trinity Mid Whits battled on to a total of 188. Gary Martin cleaned up the last 3 wickets and most importantly the last man was stumped by Simon Feeney with one ball to spare in the final over, giving Ashtead what was to prove a vital extra over.
Bowlers Piper and Jewiss troubled Ashtead's opening batsmen who struggled to only 17 off the first 10 overs, during which time they lost George Tyson for 1 in the 6th over and Gary Martin had to retire injured in the 9th. Luke Mursaleen and Rob Lammiman fought back with a partnership of 84, including numerous fours and a couple of sixes, before Lammiman was bowled for 32. Luke was joined by Colin Pitt and together they extended the score to 145 when, with victory looking in sight, Luke was caught for 66. From then on our remaining batsmen battled on valiantly, but as the wickets continued to fall, it was beginning to look as if we would have to settle for a winning draw.
Gary Martin gamely hobbled back to the crease with a runner, but only survived a further 3 balls. Simon Feeney batted and ran determinedly through the last 5 overs, but with 12 needed off the final over a win looked unlikely. However Feeney was not ready to give up and dispatched 3 balls to the boundary and so with 2 balls to spare a nail biting win was secured!
