U14 GC off to winning start

It was a bit of a struggle but the U14 Gladys Chitty XI got off to a winning start by defeating Claygate by 5 wickets at Woodfield Lane. Claygate won the toss and chose to bat first. Alex Jepp made an early breakthrough bowling the Claygate opener in the 3rd over. Claygate struggled to make any sort of impression on the Ashtead attack and with Kian Hamin taking a couple of wickets the innings stuttered along. The return of Kian in the 19th over saw the end of the innings as he took a further 2 wickets to finish with figures of 2.5 overs, 4 for 10 runs.
In reply, Ashtead lost Jamie Endeley in the first over and looked in trouble at the half way stage with the score at 31 for 5 wickets. Harry Plumb [12 Not out] joined Jason Cook [32 not out] at the crease and the pair put together a match winning partnership of 46. the winning total was reached with 2 overs to spare. The winning margin of 5 wickets made it look easier than it was and Claygate should be congratulated on putting up a brave a fine performance trying to defend a relatively low total.
