U14s triumphed in a high scoring game against Wimbledon to keep themselves in the title chase. After winning the toss and deciding to bat, Ashtead were given a flying start by Charlie Sidwell [10] and Marcus Caprano-Wint who added 48 for the first wicket off the opening 7 overs. After Marcus fell for 39, Ben Geddes was joined at the crease by skipper Tom Youngman, who added more than 80 for the next wicket until Ben retired on 52. Tom eventually fell for 30 with the score on 147 and with the other batters chipping in, the innings closed on 181 for 4 off the allotted 24 overs.
Chasing this large score, Wimbledon were soon in trouble at 14 for 2 after on early run out and Jason Cook [1 for 19] claiming another wicket. After 17 overs the score was at 91for 2 with Wimbledon seemingly out of the game needing 90 off the last 7 overs. But Little completed his half-century to retire on 50, Guy hit a rapid 29, and with Wood still at the crease the impossible suddenly looked possible. The turning point was Wood's run out for 38 and Ashtead clung on to win by 16 runs with the innings closing on 165 for 5. A great game that we were relieved to win and Wimbledon deserved a lot of credit for their attempt to chase down a large score.
