It happened on a beautifully sunny evening on the banks of the Thames at the East Molesey ground.
Ashtead fielded first and put in a cracking fielding performance under the captaincy of Toby Rackett. Wicket takers - including runouts - bowled by Luke Horner-Long (2), Josh Bates (2), Paddy Tennent (2), Toby Rackett (1), Felix Pate (1), and Luke Pisa (2). The fielding was very tight hence a couple of runouts. However, the boys still gave away too many extras which we continue to work on. Leo Martin was keeping wicket for the first time and did an outstanding job of it.
Batting was in difficult conditions with an extremely flat wicket, where the boys are used to playing on fairly bouncy astro. The opposition also had a couple of really fast and accurate bowlers. There were a few fantastic shots, and boundaries achieved by Leo Martin, Alex Gillespie, Felix Pate, Luke Pisa and Toby Rackett. And fewer kamikaze runouts which is to be applauded - although there were some tense and amazing moments where the boys got a way with it. But generally good running between the wickets.
It was a shame and frustration to lose by just 10 runs. If we can tighten up on the bowling to avoid the extras, we will be in with a much stronger shout.
Thanks to Emma Rackett for scoring and Jon Bates and Mark Rackett for sorting the batsmen.
