In glorious weather, the U9 GC team secured a good win away to Thames Ditton on Sunday.
Skipper Ewan MacFarlane won the toss, and asked Thames Ditton to bat first.
Thames Ditton scored well at first, until some tight bowling reined them in. Thomas McAlister ended with net bowling stats of minus 6 (including two wickets) and together with Kris Milder restircted Thames Ditton to just 8 runs for 2 wickets in our third bowling pair. This really broke the back of the Thames Diotton batting effort, and they finished on 287 with 4 wickets lost.
This always looked a low score. Ashtead scored well throughout the innings, with some great running between the wickets keeping the scorebaord ticking over. The Ashtead total of 304 with just 2 wickets falling secured a good win. Top scorers were Jamie Ellis (17), Ewan MacFarlane (14) and Thomas McAlister (12).
Congratulations to a couple of players making their league debut: Bradley Hunt and Sophie Benson, both contributing well and bowling out their two overs (a nervous business in your first game!), with Sophie getting a wicket into the bargain.
Honourable mentions also for valuable contributions from the rest of the players: Will Adams, especially for his maiden first over; Thomas Elkeles for his good catch; and Kris Mildner who conceded no runs and just 6 extras in his two overs.
Final result - Thames Ditton 287-4, Ashtead 304-2.
