Ashtead U9s progress in Cup

This was the first game of the season for many of the boys. The first thing to say is that the game was played in a positive, encouraging and friendly manner which resulted in a good team spirit. Having been asked to bowl first, Jacob McLoughlin and Henry Fraser Ker with some very accurate bowling restricted the scoring of Bagshots' opening batsman. Further accurate bowling during the inning from Joe Haigh and Sam Jenkins backed up by some sharp fielding by Loe Martin, Dominic Bunyard and Luke Hutter helped keep the Bagshot batsmen in check as they pushed for further runs. Some particularly tight bowling at the end by Ambar Vishnoi kept up the pressure exerted by Ashtead and saw Bagshot post a score of 233 runs.

Whilst the hard hitting opening pair for Ashtead of Luke and Henry, played an array of scoring shots against a good pair of Bagshot bowlers, wickets did fall . The following 2 pairs of Dominic and Joe and Leo and Sam accelerated the scoring with some good running between the wickets and thoughtful batting. Whilst Ashtead were ahead going into the final 4 overs Bagshot brought back two of their best bowlers in an effort to take wickets, however with Jacob and Ambar both showing very good technique Bagshots' efforts were thwarted and Ashtead finished as winners by 25 runs
