After the massive storm and then some sharp showers losing the toss was not going to be a great option, but Ashtead found themselves inserted on a poor looking wet track at Spelthorne Sports Club.
The Rob's of Mumford and Wint opened up as the bowlers found it hard to balance on the wet wicket. Wint was the first to go with a good off cutter getting him playing on. Anthony Thorpe soon followed severely hampered by a hamstring injury. Mumford was the first to double figures and went for 17. Jordan NIcholls was batting well in his first game of the season, but was unfortunately run out in a poor 2 for 19. Dave Whiteley reached 26 before he was out and Patrick Murray grew in confidence but was caught for 18. After some lusty blows from Alex Culff Ashtead were eventually out for 138, at least 40-50 too few.
Wickets were needed quickly as the wicket had dried out and Alex Culff came up trumps bowling a snorter with his first ball with a gloved catch taken by Wint at 2nd slip. There was a 50 partnership for the 2nd wicket as Weybridge's no3 was well caught by Alex Culff off a short Hill delivery. A stumping from Caprano-Wint was the 3rd wicket well stumped by Mumford.
Two more wickets fell to Culff (9-1-23-2) and Caprano-Wint (8.1-0-24-2) but in the end Ashtead lost by 5 wkts having not scored enough in the first innings.
Some good endeavour from the young side, but losing the toss was a key factor for the day.
