Losing the toss Ashtead were asked to bat and quickly lost wickets, Sam Gale out LBW in the 2nd over, and fellow opener Jepp also went soon afterwards to a wayward shot to a short wide ball.
Williams never looked in trouble until a very (very) short ball forced a mis-timed hook and he gave a catch for the second top score of 12, Roberts gave an easy catch at mid-wicket for their spinners first of 5 wickets, then Culff and Hill followed in rapid succession for just 1 a piece, skipper Wint was watching all this from the other end.
The wicket was not easy, being a bit slow, but Ashtead's batting showed no application to stay at the crease. Caprano-Wint fell lobbing a difficult catch back to the bowler. Drinks arrived and soon afterwards Wint was finally out for 28. Martin and Elburn were then out cheaply leaving Ashtead on 77 - a very poor total.
Wickets were needed early, but it wasn't until the 9th over before Rose (5-5-0-1) struck with a great catch from Martin, Banstead were 23-1 with 6 overs to tea. In search of wickets the bowling was changed regularly. Martin had a couple of wickets, Caprano-Wint one and Alex Culff one but Banstead saw themselves home with 5 wickets left.
A very poor batting display forced the end result.
