With the game due to start at 10am to accommodate both teams watching the World Cup Quarter Final, Ashtead lost the toss and were put into bat against 9-man Walton-on-Thames.
Ashtead's first wicket fell in the 3rd over, Gavin-Brown and Wint made steady progress against some tight bowling before Gavin-Brown was caught behind for 28. T Culhane joined Wint which started a 140 partnership before the skipper was caught by a stunning catch in the deep for a run a ball 59. Newhouse and Amer fell cheaply which brought Murray to the crease. Wint secured his 100 during the partnership with Murray who took on the charge and scored 42 from 26 balls. Ashtead declared after 50 overs having scored 275-5, with Wint finishing on 118* in a 3 hour innings.
Ashtead started their bowling with 90 mins of play due before the break for the football. After some tight bowling Walton were 100-3 when the break came with wickets for Murray (3-30), Gallagher (2-29) and Caprano-Wint (1-35).
After the successful football break, Ashtead started to chip away at Walton's middle order, with Tom Culhane taking a sharp catch at 2nd slip for Gallagher's 2nd wicket, then as Jarrold (2-13) replaced Caprano-Wint and Murray returned from the top end we took the last 4 wickets to secure a valuable win for Ashtead, bowling Walton out for 152 and retain our 2nd placed spot in the Premier League.
