Having won the toss Ashtead chose to bowl, and with the threat of rain mid afternoon time was of the essence, so bowling Walton out for 75 in the 30th over was a great performance. Alex Culhane got the first wicket with his first ball in the second over, and by the time he finished his spell of 7 overs, 2 for 4 runs Walton were 18-4 with Sam Haywood and Shaun Wallace with a wicket each. The inclusion of Connor Caprano-Wint saw 3 more wickets fall to him finishing 3-24. But as Shaun (4-15) came back to replace Connor he picked up the final 3 Walton wickets in his first over back to finish the innings, two going to first slip Connor who plucked a one handed catch low to his right, much to his and his teams surprise, and then the final wicket came as he took his next catch two handed low to his left. It had been drizzling on and off but Walton were all out for 75 in the 30th over.
Ashtead started their reply straight away as Nick Gavin-Brown and Sam Gale opened up. Nick fell first with the score at 26-1 and then Sam fell some time later with the score progressing to 69-2, with less than ten runs needed, brothers Tom and Alex saw Ashtead home with an 8 wicket win at the end of the 16th over.
Credit to both sides for trying to complete a game in drizzly conditions.
