The 3s secured a key win over Walton on Thames, only their 3rd of the season

Having won the toss on the warmest day of the season so far, skipper Culhane chose to bowl on a very green wicket. Openers Burgess and Elburn had no early luck on the wicket and it was the inclusion of Alex Culhane into the attack that brought the first wicket with his first ball as Will Culhane took a high catch to remove the opener for a brisk 31 with the score on 34.

But it was the inclusion of Marcus Caprano-Wint into the attack which saw a remarkable spell of bowling, wickets came in regular intervals from both ends and Marcus got a clean bowled in his first over but it was only in his 12th over that he got his 3rd wicket and also the first scoring shot off his bowling and finished with astonishing figures of 15-12-8-3 with 86 dot balls in all, 69 in a row all counted by his team mates!

Alex Culhane picked up 3 wickets with his swing bowling, and brother Will picked up a wicket with sharp take down the leg side by Wint. Burgess came back relieving Caprano-Wint from his mammoth spell and wrapped up the innings with a run out and 2 wickets to leave Walton all out for 125.

In reply, we lost opener Biggs to a run out in the 5th over, but Tom Culhane went on to score his first 50 of the season and finished up out for 66 as the 4th wicket went down with just 21 to win. With recent poor chases nerves were on edge and when the 5th and 6th wickets went in the 37th over leaving 16 to win, the Ashtead nerves were jangling!

But brother Alex and Will took the score to just one behind Walton's 125 before Will was caught, but two balls later Alex smashed a full toss to the mid wicket boundary to ease the sides nerves and secure a vital win.

Well played all, and it'll be quite some time, if ever, that we see bowling figures like that again.
