Ashtead took on fellow relegated Cheam from 2014 at Box Hill School, winning the toss Ashtead chose to bowl first. Waugh and debutant Jan (3-27) started well showing good pace and control with the new ball. Jan struck first clean bowling the Cheam opener, his second and final of his first spell followed soon after. The 3rd wicket fell to the leg-spin of Caprano-Wint (5-24), a googly with his first ball and then he proceeded to bamboozle the Cheam batters picking up 4 more wickets. Before Caprano-Wint took the final wicket, Jan returned to remove the stubborn Fisher clean bowling the opener. Ashtead had bowled tidily and bowled Cheam out for 133 in the 41st over.
In reply, Culhane (83*) and Wint (18) started well again but Wint was trapped LBW with the score on 44. Young Geddes (29) joined the captain and took the game beyond Cheam with an excellent partnership but was out with just 15 needed for victory gifting a return catch to the Cheam off-spinner. Nichols and Culhane ensured there were no late twists and Ashtead ran out comfortable winners by 8 wickets in just 23.3 overs.
The 24 points for the win were very valuable and see Ashtead continue to rise up the table slowly. A home fixture next week against East Molesey will hopefully see Ashtead continue their recent form.
