After the minutes silence to remember Virginia Edwards, Ashtead batted first and openers Culhane (20) and Wint (32) put on another 50 partnership for the first wicket. Wint was the first to go gifting a chance to point of the Beddington captain's slow spin. Ashtead continued to push forward with good starts from each batter, but wickets also continued to tumble. The key partnership was between the youngest Culhane (54) and Burgess (33) who put on 73 for the 8th wicket and as the final wicket fell in controversial style as our 10th wicket was "mancadded" to leave us 269 all out on the 53rd over.
Ashtead had 48 overs to bowl back at Beddington and Martin (2-26) grabbed two more early wickets to leave Beddington 26-2, but the 3rd wicket partnership wasn't broken until C Caprano-Wint (2-19) had their opener adjudged LBW and then grabbed the other batter in the 100 partnership clean bowled. The spin of the other Caprano-Wint and middle Culhane (4-39) also tied down Beddington. Burgess returned to pick up the 9th wicket but Ashtead could not dislodge the final batter as Beddington held out for the final few overs to reach 182-9.
A really strong performance from Ashtead they hope to continue as they head into local derby vs Cheam.
