Strong bowling display sets up win.

ASHTEAD CC - 160 FOR 7 (46.2 OVERS)
CHESSINGTON CC - 159 ALL OUT (54.4 OVERS)
RESULT - ASHTEAD WON BY 3 WICKETS

Sterling efforts by players and volunteers following an early morning torrential downpour enabled play to start on time at Woodfield Lane on Saturday. Winning the toss and trying out a newly laid wicket for the first time, Deighton took the sensible course of action and asked Chessington to bat first.

Pereira and Miller took the new ball for Ashtead and although a little wayward at times, both bowled with good pace and aggression. Miller in particular struggled to find his line, but his patience was rewarded when Willis padded up to one that nipped back off the seem and was LBW for 6 with the score on 19. Periera, who is rapidly maturing into a fine bowler, bowled his seven overs at a good pace and in the right areas He was replaced by Jono Sole, who continues to impress with the ball. Sole bowled his brisk medium pace with commendable accuracy and was backed up by some excellent keeping by Lammiman who accounted for the first of Sole's two victims, Teale, who Lammiman stumped for 16.
On the whole, Chessington appeared to be making heavy work of what looked like a very flat wicket. Going along at around 2 to 3 an over, the Chessington batsman found themselves bogged down by an impressive quartet of Ashtead bowling from Sole, Vaughan-Davies, Deighton and Homes. Deighton and Homes took 3 a piece and if it had not been for some brave hitting by Singleton, who took 14 off Deighton's penultimate over, the score would have been very significantly below par.

Still, Ashtead would have been very happy with the 159, Chessington had set them, when Homes bowled Singleton for 17 to bring the Chessington innings to a close. Sibley and Sanderson seemed to be settling in well for Ashtead before Sibley was given out LBW for 7 with the score on 11. Vaughan-Davies then joined Sanderson and these two batted very well together, enjoying a partnership of 61 before Sanderson holed out disappointingly for 43. Miller and Vaughan-Davies then batted very responsibly to take the score onto 119, before Miller was caught in the deep trying an audacious heave over mid-wicket.

By now Chessington had the spinners on and having taken the pace off the ball, runs were all of a sudden much more difficult to come by. Consequently, when Miller, Vaughan-Davies and Sole all departed in rapid succession, suddenly Ashtead found themselves under a good degree of pressure, with a run rate that was climbing. Fortunately, Cameron who is performing a vital role at six, batted with great composure and with the help of Pickering and Deighton steered Ashtead home. Cameron finished the game for Ashtead in grand style smashing Yarnley out of the ground for six.

This win, saw Ashtead move to second in the Division 2 table and a top of the table clash with Chipstead and Coulsden next Saturday at Woodfield Lane.
