Ashtead move to second place!

Batting first on a wicket which showed early signs of movement, Vaughan Davies and Roberts did well to see Ashtead through the first hour, losing only Elkin, to a brilliant stumping. Vaughan Davies and Roberts did well to get the Stags unto 49, before Vaughan-Davies fell for 22. Cameron and Roberts then batted steadily, but with the score on 88, 4 Asthead wickets fell in quick succession to leave the Stags struggling at 110 for 6.

A partnership of 59 between Pitt and Sanderson got things back on track and the score upto 169 before Pitt and Sanderson fell in quick succession. A ninth wicket partnership of 85 between Pickering and Deighton took Ashtead to a very respectable 256 for 8, before Vaughan-Davies declared in the 64th over.

Prahsanth Srinivassen started nervously in his first team debut, as was to be expected. However, he settled down well and was rewarded by the first wicket of the Dulwich innings, when Carlton was caught by Cameron for 21 with the score on 31. Nevertheless, Dulwich would have been very satisfied with the position at tea, with the score on 58 and only one wicket down. Unfortunately, the tea break was to mark a remarkable change in fortune for Dulwich, with Deighton taking his first wicket of seven in the innings, in the first over after tea. After that, apart from a brief spell of defiance from Lester (41), it was all Deighton, who varying his pace and flight skilfully, was rewarded with the figures of 7 for 32, in only 12.3 overs.

The Dulwich top order showed some signs of resistance and Lester struck the ball defiantly in his innings of 41. However, the bottom half of the order were scarce able to provide any resistance at all, with 5 wickets falling for the addition of only 24 runs, to give Ashtead victory by the very comfortable margin of 121 runs.
